Commission Guidelines

As opposed to some other painting services out there, who offer a range of qualities, I only paint one way. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I can't purposely paint something that I don't feel proud of.

Some services will do a great job on a squad leader, while skimping on the rank and file. I won't. Each model, from the squad leader down to the lowliest grunt, will be of display quality. You won't see a nicely painted leader and then a bunch of grunts who look like they were done by a blind monkey using finger paint. :-)

Every customer will have their own Project Log, complete with pictures, showing the progress of their commission from start to finish. It keeps the customer up to date on how the project is progressing, and allows me to incorporate any suggestions along the way. For squads of models, I will paint a test model first, then take some pictures for you to look at to make sure the scheme is to your liking. Once the paint scheme is settled upon, I will then go ahead and paint the rest of the squad.

Pricing

Prices are determined on a case by case basis. I'm working on a comprehensive pricing guide at the moment. Once it's finished, I will post it here.

For now, to give you an idea of what a typical commission would cost. I charge $25-$30 to paint a typical 28mm infantry figure, depending on the level of detail and fiddly bits. This cost includes basing with gravel and pebbles, static grass if desired, fully detailed and highlighted paint job, decals if desired, realistic eyes, etc. Once the painting is complete, the model will receive a coat of dullcoat spray varnish to protect the paint. Your models will be comparable in quality to what you see on my website.

Larger infantry will cost a bit more due to more detail and fiddly stuff. These models are generally bulkier than standard infantry, often with heavier armor and/or extra 'gubbinz' (wings, flight packs, etc.). The cost to paint larger infantry varies from $35-$45 depending on detail and fiddly bits.

Commander and/or character models are double normal cost because of the amount detail typical to these model types. This includes models such as the army's commander and special characters. I like to go the extra mile on these guys since they are the 'showcase' models of an army.

I also charge a nominal fee for assembly based on the complexity of the models. This fee ranges from as little as $1.00 for a simple 2-3 part model from a blister pack, to as much as $25-$30 for a really fiddly vehicle model. The assembly fee will be waived if you send me the assembled models.

Cost of Models

If I obtain the models myself, I will charge whatever I pay for them. I know the gang at my local game store really well and get stuff at a discount, usually 20% off depending on who's working. If the models have to be shipped, the price will include any applicable taxes and shipping charges. This cost is negated if you already have the models and ship them to me.

Payment

I use PayPal for online payment purposes. It's free, secure, and offers protection for customers as well as vendors.

I require a 25% down payment plus the cost of any models to be paid up front before I begin work on a commission. This ensures that only serious customers request a commission. Once I receive the down payment, your commission will enter the project que. If there are projects ahead of yours, there may be a waiting period before I can get started on it.

The remaining 75% plus shipping costs is due upon project completion. If you are unable to pay for a commission when it is completed, I will reserve the model(s) for ONE MONTH. If payment still has not been received in that time, your down payment will be forfeited and I reserve the right to make the model available for sale to another customer or on eBay.

Shipping

I ship USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. I generally use the medium size 'flat rate' boxes, so the shipping price of most of my commission jobs is about $11.00 domestically. International rates will vary by destination. If you would prefer a different method of shipping (FedEx, UPS, etc), that can be arranged, but I find the USPS to be the most cost effective.

I pack my models very well so they will arrive safely, but I cannot guarantee that the package won't be mishandled. In the unlikely event that any damage does occur, I will be happy to repair it for you if it is sent back to me, but a full refund cannot be given.

Please note: The 'free shipping' offer in my Store does NOT apply to commission jobs.

A Note about Insurance: I don't normally insure packages unless a customer specifically requests it. The USPS will only cover the wholesale value of the models, it's nearly impossible to get reimbursed for the assembly and painting services. Insurance claims through the USPS are also slow to be paid, and nearly impossible to collect in the case of international packages. In the event that a claim is paid, the Post Office destroys the models! I'd rather repair a model for a customer than have some Post Office monkey take a hammer to it.
